Betty DivelBetty Jean Divel
August 13, 1941 – November 14, 2018

Betty Jean Divel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed into her Lord and Savior’s arms on November 14, 2018.

Betty was born on August 13, 1941, in McFarland, Kansas to Glenn and Hazel Selvy. On October 14, 1961, she married her forever sweetheart, Gary Divel, in Independence, Kansas. Betty and Gary recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Betty’s faith and trust in God was at the center of her life and was evident to all who she came into contact with. She lived out that faith in all her actions and relationships and left a lasting legacy with her family and friends. Betty was a tremendous servant-leader who had an incredible heart for compassion, encouragement, and service to others. She enjoyed participating in and leading Bible studies of all sorts over the years including Bible Study Fellowship, and also enjoyed many other activities, crafts and projects with family and friends.

“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”  – Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT

She is survived by her husband, Gary; her daughter, Marcy, and son-in-law, Jon; her son, Aaron; her grandchildren: McKenzie, Bryce, Trevor, Elise and Caleb; and her brother, Dean; along with many wonderful nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews in her extended family. She was preceded in death by her son, Lance; her parents; and her sister-in-law, Sara.

Our family wishes to express sincere thanks to all the outstanding care providers who supported and loved on Betty throughout her brave journey. To all the faithful friends and family, physicians, nurses, PA’s, Rocky Mountain Cancer Center personnel, and Pikes Peak Hospice workers – you have our eternal gratitude!

A memorial service will be held on November 24, at 1pm at Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80908. A short reception will be held after the service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, Academy Christian Church Missions, or a charity of your choice.
