Chad Dobson

Chad Dobson passed away on March 19, 2019 at the age of 40, the result of a long and difficult fight with depression and alcoholism, to which our hearts are so saddened. Chad was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Chad was preceded in death by his sister, Amy (Dobson) Lawler (1/27/16); most recently his daughter, Kayla Dobson (1/26/19); and his cousin, Shannon Nelson.

Chad is survived by his parents, Craig and Cheryl (McKinnon) Dobson; as well as his life partner, Teresa Bergman and her two sons, Josh and Sean Trainor, which Chad raised as his own and was the only father that they really ever knew. Chad is also survived by his niece, Haley Katz of Jacksonville, FL; and his granddaughter, Mila Dobson of Colorado Springs. He is survived by Morning Star Coyhis, the mother of his daughter, Kayla Dobson. He is further survived by his aunts and uncles: Connie Nelson of Colorado Springs; Scott and Rhonda Dobson of Colorado Springs; Bill and Dottie McKinnon of Blacksburg, VA; Steve and Tammy McKinnon of Abingdon, VA; and Gerald and Diane Atkins of Roanoke, VA; in addition to many cousins.

Chad was known for having a big heart and did many good things for people out of the goodness of his heart. He loved to laugh and was known for making people laugh. He loved people unconditionally. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. In his passing, his parents are relieved that Chad will no longer have to fight the terrible addiction of alcohol and are blessed knowing that their son knew the Lord.

Memorial services will be held at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. The address is 4285 North Academy Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

  6. My name is Andrew Wray. I moved overseas in August of 2013. Chad was a very dear friend of mine and we haven’t been in touch much since I left. In 2017 I got a message from him him that he was having a hard time about Amy’s death. I didn’t get that message until June 2019. I just was looking at the number that he left me in 2017 to call him. And then I went on Google and found this” In Rememberence” about him. I am truly in shock. I feel guilty that I didn’t call him in 2017. To his parents I am truly sorry. The most difficult thing in life would be to lose 1 child but 2 within 3 years. I am truly in shock. Craig and Cheryl I wish you all the best and GODSPEED to my dear friend Chadly and his sister. Chad was truly a kind soul and always just showed kindness through his actions. He always made me laugh and he never even tried. Now he sings with the Angel’s in heaven. Chadly dude. I will miss you. Until we meet on the other side. May OUR CHRIST shine his light on you for eternity brother. I won’t ever forget you.

    1. Andrew, this is Chad’s Aunt Diane. Thank you for sharing your caring thoughts. You knew Chad well so you realize that he had struggled for many years. But you are correct about Chad’s deep sorrow after Amy passed in 2016. When his daughter, Kayla, died almost exactly three years later on January 26, 2019, he was devastated. He had several experiences after Kayla died that he truly believed were from God. These seemed to comfort him but the sadness was overwhelming. Thank you for the kind words for Chad’s parents. They are trusting God to comfort their hearts and give them strength to get through these dark times.
