Corrine Margaret Palmes-Sanchez

Our much-loved mother, Corrine Margaret Palmes-Sanchez, passed away January 22, 2019, at the age of 93. Corrine, nicknamed Connie, was born in Superior, Wisconsin, and raised in Nashwauk, Minnesota, a very small iron ore mining community in northern Minnesota.

She came to Denver, Colorado, to work at Denver General Hospital as an x-ray technician. She soon met Albert whom she married and had four children and made their home in Aurora. Their only son was a special needs child. Connie lovingly dedicated her life to caring for his unique challenges. This dedication and determination to help the handicapped led to her many years of volunteering which included serving as President of the Colorado Association for Retarded Citizens (CARC).

As the children left home, Connie moved to Castle Rock where she retired and began many years of volunteering. She served on the board of Civitans and supported the Douglas/Elbert Task Force through her work at the Thrift Store.  Her next stage in life led her to Colorado Springs where she continued her volunteering at Penrose Hospital. All along the way, her fun, gregarious personality rewarded her with many lifelong friends.

While living independently and reaching 91 years old, she met Claude and then married.  They were known in the senior community for enjoying life and doing their favorite thing, dancing.

Connie is survived by Claude; daughter, Nancy Larson of Scottsdale, AZ; son, Kirk Palmes of Colorado Springs; daughter, Jana Heiner of Denver; and daughter, Jennifer Palmes of Colorado Springs. Connie is also survived by five grandchildren: Ryan, Dana, Krista, Laurie, and Curt; and her four great grandchildren: Reese, Blake, Brooklynn and Scarlett.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsettia Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.  Graveside services are private.

In lieu of flowers, Connie’s wishes were that you instead consider sending contributions to Cheyenne Village, a non-profit organization who provides assistance and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 6275 Lehman Dr. Colorado Springs, CO 80918, cheyennevillage.org.
