Hartmut Schuler

Hartmut Schuler, age 84, passed away on January 24, 2019. 

He was born to Gottlob and Maria Schuler in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1956. In January of 1957, he was drafted into the US Army, making the Army his career, becoming a Green Beret and serving 2 tours in Vietnam with SOG. His military awards and decorations included 6 Bronze Stars for Valor and Meritorius Service, the Air Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award, Combat Infantryman Badge, Airborne Badge, and Special Forces Tab.

He brought the love of his life, Rosemarie, from East Germany in 1957, and they were married in August of that year. They had two sons and the good fortune of being stationed in Germany for many years, permitting them to spend time with their families in their homeland.

During his years in Colorado Springs, he enjoyed skiing, hiking, travelling, and spending time with family and friends. Family was so important to him. He treated his kids and grandkids to trips to Mexico and Germany. He is a past-president of the Alpenland German Club and was instrumental in organizing and bringing the Oktoberfest to Colorado Springs for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemarie; son, Roy, daughter-in-law, Patricia; grandsons, Brandon and Ryan; son, Glenn; daughter-in-law, Judy; granddaughter, Emily; and brothers, Friedemann, Dietmar, and Siegbert.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 2 at the Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Avenue, Colorado Springs.

  3. It is such sad news to hear of Hartmut’s passing. We had so many great times at member’s night at the AFA Falcon Club with he and Rosie and the rest of our German group–he will be missed greatly and remembered for his outstanding service to our Country and his love for his friends and family.

  6. My deepest condolences to your family. Hartmut and I became friends for a very short time in the spring of 1957 when we served together in basic training at Ft. Knox KY.
