An angel returned home on July 14, 2020 when Jean G. Woofter, born on January 23, 1935 to Charles J. Robertson and Helen Jean Rodgers, passed away at her home.
Jean is survived by her sister, Bonnie Breen (and her husband Kenneth) and her three children; daughter, Deborah Korrell from Thornton, Colorado (and her husband Steven), daughter Donna Wasson from Colorado Springs, Colorado (and her husband Smokey), and her son Michael Gallagher from Cheyenne, Wyoming (and his wife Denise). Jean will also be remembered and missed by her 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rex McKibben and her sisters, Charlotte Ault and Sue Jennings.
Jean was married to her first husband and the father of her children, Donald Gallagher, for 25 years. Following their separation, she married her best friend Archie “Whitey” Reese Woofter Jr. on January 11, 1984 in Colorado Springs. They enjoyed many happy years together until Whitey passed away from cancer on July 28, 2001.
Jean worked for many years as the front desk clerk for Little America in Cheyenne, Wyoming, which is where she retired from. Following retirement, Jean loved traveling with Whitey to several states and they also traveled to Europe. Her favorite hobbies were quilting and Brazilian embroidery, but her true passion was helping people. In her later years, Jean bravely returned to school to pursue her GED certificate and even tutored high school students struggling in literacy.
A memorial to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80910. A luncheon will be hosted afterwards at 12:30 p.m. at the Golden Corral restaurant at 1970 Waynoka Rd., Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80915. For those wishing to honor Jean’s memory, donations can be made in her name to Namaste Hospice, 600 E. Evans Ave. #2-400, Denver, Colorado, 80222.
Jean will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. She will forever be remembered for her loving personality, a wonderful sense of humor, her extreme generosity, and her caring nature.
