Joseph “Joe” Julian Canno III died peacefully with his family by his side in Colorado Springs on October 11th, 2020 at the age of 69.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lorie; children, Larissa, Adrienne, Alisha; grandchildren, Alyssa, Makayla, Avery, Adrianna; siblings, Theresa, Bridget, Mike. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Julian Canno Jr. and Beatrice Brun Canno.

Joe was born on June 5th, 1951 in Pasadena, Texas to Joseph Julian Canno Jr. and Beatrice Brun Canno. He was raised with his three siblings who enjoyed sharing their love for music, sports, and Hawaiian traditions. He attended Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. Joe spent the majority of his career as a journeyman pressman and was known for his ability to fix, paint, and build almost anything.  He met Lorie in Colorado Springs and they later married in 1974.They welcomed three daughters and four grandchildren over the years. His family remembers him as a hard-working, dedicated father who spent his days ensuring a home full of love and fun. Joe encouraged the spreading of love and kindness and always had a joke ready for every occasion. Joe’s proudest accomplishment was being a father and creating memorable family traditions.

Joe was a gifted musician who loved playing the guitar, harmonica, drums, and performed as a lead singer.  His love for music began at a young age and he joined several bands throughout his adolescents and adult life.  Over the years, he enjoyed staying active with skiing, jogging, softball, volleyball and enjoyed including his family and friends in his hobbies. Joe found joy in almost any setting, especially near the beach or any warm body of water.  After Joe retired, he spent his time giving back to the community and perfecting his grilling skills. One of his favorite retirement hobbies was rebuilding and cruising in his Ford Mustang.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Jack Quinns, located at 21 S Tejon St., on October 24th at 1:00pm. All family and friends are encouraged to attend to celebrate Joe’s legacy. 2. What a huge loss! I met Joe & Lorie when I had Larissa in my 3rd grade class! They became immediate supporters & friends. Joe was always good for a laugh! He was a great dad & I’m sure a wonderful grandfather! Play some great music, tell lots of jokes in Heaven, Joe!

  3. I am at a loss for words reading this obituary of Joe. Your loss (Joe’s family) is immense and felt by many, including me – all the way up in MT. Joe was a big brother to me for many years, and a very good influence in my life. He was always a gentleman, gracious and inclusive of anyone. I used to sneak downstairs with Bridget and listen to his band practice in High School. His love for music was infectious! I cherished his friendship, and he and Lorie were so kind when my father passed, bringing food, inviting us to share a meal and talking of the good old days when my dad would frown at our antics and our music! He always made me laugh and I shall always remember him with love in my heart. Hello to all the fam.

  4. Sending my condolences to Joe’s family and friends. He was such a nice man with always a great smile.

  5. I never met Joe, but Bridget was one of my classmates at Wagner High and I used to hang out with Theresa (jamming with the Pollard boys) when we were teenagers. You were often in my thoughts during the 45-or-so years since I’ve seen any of you, and I’m sorry I had to find you this way. Please accept my most sincere condolences and prayers.

  6. I am so sorry for the loss of Joe. We always had great laughs together. Always loved the Canno family as great friends. Joe will truly be missed

  7. Joe was not a good friend of mine at Wagner HS, but we were musically connected thought the Sullivan Brothers and the Wagner music scene. He had a quiet nature in High School and I only got to know him at the 2010 Wagner Reunion in Las Vegas, where we performed together in a wonderful 2 hour performance. What a big friendly heart!! I chatted with Joe about 10 months ago. We talked about another reunion with musical buddies. Well Joe is going to make sure all of our instruments are tuned up in heaven when we all finally get together for the Ultimate Wagner Ragtime Rocking Band Concert! Much Love and Condolences to Joe’s family, especially Bridget.

  8. Joe, along with BC you were one of my best friends ever. That statement spans time and distance and challenges me to never forget those qualities that made you such a special person. I will miss our frequent phone calls. Ohio is a long way from “the Springs” and so many decades have passed since we were young men together. This world is a lesser place with your passing!

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him! Rest in Peace, my brother.

  9. Joe was my best friend for 35 years. We had hundreds of great ski trips throughout the years. He was such a good friend and a special person. I miss him greatly.

  17. I was able to to work with Joe at SKSF for the past two years. We immediately bonded over our love for traveling and being proud Portuguese (meaning how tan we were year around lol). I always looked forward to hearing his stories and sharing mine as well. He was a great listener and you knew that he genuinely cared about what you had to say. Even though it has been months since the clients have seen Joe they ask about him often and speak about how much they miss him. They knew he was there for them and was there to listen and provide support. The client’s ask me weekly if they can see Joe because they have something important to tell him (probably about a holiday or their birthday, he was always there to celebrate with them). Joe you will be missed by so many. Thank you for sharing your time with us.

  18. Lorie and family,
Kathy and I are so sorry ~.
Words cannot express the loss of one at this magnitude. Joe touched many people in such a personal way! He was a multi-faceted man, and always a good man. No loss of great words to say about him. Our hearts go out to the family.
He made everyone feel comfortable the minute you were near him.

Typical Big Brother I never had.
Tip of the iceberg in 30 years of great memories.
    Thank you Joe.
    Thank you.

  19. I am proud to have called Joe my friend and brother for the last 50 years. We shared a strong musical bond, having played in several bands over the years. He occasionally came over to our Friday night jams with a case full of Blues Harps, and watch out, he was the best harmonica player I ever knew. I can’t remember a time when we weren’t laughing, and he was always the first to offer his help. I am glad I got to help him with his beloved Mustang. You will be greatly missed, my friend.

  20. Today I will sing a song, lift a glass, and give thanks for having Joe Cano in my life. He will always be in my life. Miss him, love him, and cherish the happy memories. Celebrate the joy today. Love you Joe

  21. I’ve known Joe for 25 years and shared life’s ups and downs along the way. He always had a way of bringing joy into other people’s lives. I will miss him greatly and will never ski again without thinking of the many trips we did. The world will not be the same without him. My love to the family.

  22. Joe and his family have been a part of Special Kids Special Families for a long time. I have had the pleasure of meeting the family, including some of the grandchildren. What a blessing. I will always remember going into the adult program using the side door; and Joe coming out to start a bus run and we would have a chance just to chat a bit. I know just how proud he was of his wife and children; because he always shared that with me. His smile is forever imprinted in my mind. We miss him!

  23. I worked with joe for a year and almost a 1/2 at SKSF and im glad i had the pleasure to work with him. Always came to work hurting and i asked him what was wrong he would always say “old age” and we would both laugh. Im grateful i had a chance to know him. He will be missed. RIP JOE!

  24. I went to school with Joe at AAHS class of 1969, I think even Jr High. He was always friendly to me. I left after 10th grade to go to the Philippines and didn’t know till later that he had gone over there after graduation and hung out with some of the same people I know now. Last time I saw Joe was 2000 when I moved back to the Springs for a short time. Friendly as ever, always a smile. There is a big hole in all our hearts. My Condolences to his whole family.
