With sadness the family of “Jo” Barnes announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Jo was born on a farm close to Fenwood, Saskatchewan where she with her eight siblings worked, played country music and lived overcoming numerous difficulties along the way.
Jo met her life’s calling as a LPN by training in Winnipeg, Manitoba, an occupation that would bring her to meet her soon to be husband, Charles, an American soldier on a train in Canada. Thus began a 63 year marriage taking them to various US Army installations in the east and to the far north in Fort Wainwright, Alaska and having two children, Charlene and Charles Jr (deceased). Jo continued to work as a nurse sharing her love of life, country music and the outdoors, as well as bringing joy to other women as a OB/GYN nurse until 1996 when she retired. She enjoyed being a grandmother cooking, baking, thrift store shopping and ensuring the grandkids were completely spoiled for many years.
She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her and is survived by her daughter, Charlene, her grandkids, Kent, Chad, Andrea and Nicholas, as well as five great grandkids.
A private family service will be conducted at Shrine of Remembrance on February, 27 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer Association, Colorado Chapter, 455 N Sherman St Ste 500, Denver, CO 80203 or at https://www.alz.org/co.

27 Feb 2021My beloved friend, Jo, we met and instantly became friends – no questions asked. I admired Jo so much. She suffered a lot throughout her life, I know, but she cheerfully carried on. She was a great friend. I will certainly miss our phone conversations where she always made me laugh. Rest in peace, Jo, until we meet again. Love and admiration, Angie.
