Kyle Nickless, 27, of Denver, Colorado passed away in the early hours of Sunday, February 16, 2020 from complications due to epilepsy.

Kyle was born on December 24, 1992 in Colorado Springs. He is survived by his parents, Barbara and Steven Nickless, his sister Amanda Nickless, his grandmother Mavis Nickless, and three aunts, three uncles, and six cousins.

Kyle received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, graduating with honors. He worked as a structural engineer at Kiewit and was a member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Kyle enjoyed many things–skiing, the Broncos, music, movies, gaming, hiking, drumming, reading, and hanging out with his sister and his friends. He played soccer and tennis, ran and lifted weights, and in the interest of eating well, had decided it was time to get serious about cooking.

What we remember most about Kyle is his kindness. He was determined to put others first. He was also determined to not let the risks created by his epilepsy define who he was.

A memorial service will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs (1730 E. Fountain Blvd.) on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 with a reception immediately following across the street at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center (975 S. Union Blvd.).

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kyle’s name can be made to K(NO)W SUDEP NOW at their website.

  8. Dear Steve, Barb, Amanda & Kyles’ wonderful family-
As we think of the times we have briefly hung out with Kyle over the years, we are so deeply saddened for you, his family, and our world in general, at having lost such a beautiful person, He is obviously absolutely missed .
Kyle was such a nice man to be with, who was engaging to talk with even if you hadn’t seen each other in a long while, We personally loved watching the hardworking , intelligent and fun loving young man he had become, and hearing about what new things he was getting interested in. From our perspective, he obviously cherished his family, whether hanging out at a family function or celebration, a Broncos or CSU/CU game, or one of his mother’s exciting book signings. He was always so likable and pleasant.
As terribly painful as this is for his family to be going through , we pray they realize and have the heartfelt knowledge that Kyle loved them with all his heart and felt loved totally & unconditionally by them. In this act there is no greater gift one human can give to another . He is alive in all our hearts and awaits the moment we’ll meet again.

With all our love, David & Renee
