Sue Cargile Knott – October 27, 2025

Sue Cargile Knott left this world on October 27, 2025, at the age of 92, barely 2 weeks shy of her 93rd birthday. Born in Asheville, NC, the only child of Roscoe and Linnie Cargile, Sue passed away in Colorado Springs, CO where she had lived since 1981.

In 1955, she married Geoffrey D. Knott, a Baptist Seminary student who later became a Protestant chaplain in the U.S. Army. As a military wife, she had the rare opportunity to travel all over America and many parts of Europe. On her journey, she lived in Colorado, Germany, New York, North Carolina, Kentucky, Alaska and Alabama. Vacation travels included East and West Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Spain, Italy and multiple U.S. states.

Throughout her life, she was a supportive wife and hardworking mother of four boys but had many other interests and talents. A graduate of Wake Forest University, Sue worked many years as a Registered Nurse prior to and during the 20 years of her husband’s military service. After the military, she became a certified tax consultant for H&R Block, eventually rising to manager of their Colorado Springs corporate tax office where she worked until the early 90’s.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Sue was also endowed with an artistic gift. She pursued her talent with oil paintings, pencil drawings, watercolors, ceramics and embroidery. She decorated her home with a wealth of artwork for her family’s enjoyment, a feat in which they take pride to this day.

But her greatest contribution to this world was her caring, empathy and kindness. Almost to a fault, Sue was diligent in looking after the needs of her family and others she encountered. She was also considered by friends and family to be someone they could always turn to for a compassionate ear or good conversation. For that alone, she will be sorely missed by all.

Sue is survived by 4 sons: Gerald, Ken, Marc and John; 6 grandchildren: Cassie, Tonya, Jeremy, Daniel, Logan and Conor; and 3 great-grandchildren: Drake, Cameron and Riley.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm, on Wednesday, November 5, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 10:00am, Thursday, November 6, at Vista Grande Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Sue will be interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO with her late husband, Geoffrey.

Please send flowers or other memorials to Shrine of Remembrance at 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
