October 30, 1932 – January 23, 2020

Annie Mae Walton-Johnson, a devoted Christian, loving wife and mother, died January 23, 2020, she was 87. Annie Mae was born October 30, 1932 in Eupora, Mississippi to Everett and Madora (Ford) Brown and moved to Colorado Springs in 1941.

Early in her life, she worked in domestic service. She was employed by the El Paso County Treasurer’s Office, Central Bank and Western Forge. She worked at Focus on the Family until she retired. Annie Mae was a dedicated member in the church. As a longtime congregant of Payne Chapel AME Church, she served on the usher board, sang in the choir, attended Bible study and taught Sunday school.

At home, she was a gifted seamstress and a passionate baker.  Known for her famous dinner rolls, she also enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls, cakes, cookies and pies. She relished spending time with her beloved family and friends.

Annie Mae was preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers: James, John, Calvin, Howard and Joe Brown. Her spirit is carried on by her sister, Dorthis Christmas, her brother, Hubert Brown, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Annie Mae mothered Kent (Barbara) Walton of Fairview, OR; Linda Clemons of Phoenix, AZ; Robert (Anita) Walton of El Cajon, CA; Darlene Jones of Phoenix, AZ; and Lynell Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO.

Her grandchildren include: Dionne Walton, Jaime Joyce, Nicole Jones, Rickey Jackson, Robert Walton Jr, Adelle François.  Her great grandchildren include Maurice Walton, William Dreyer, Harper Jackson, Miguelle François, Ziva Walton, and Lennox Jackson. Her great-great grandchildren include: Maliq Walton and Mariah Walton, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her quick-witted and loving nature never failed to comfort you and put you at ease, she will be greatly missed.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the care and love the staff at Laurel Manor gave our loved one.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Payne Chapel AME Church’s Feeding Ministry, in remembrance of Annie Walton-Johnson, 3625 Marion Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Service 11AM Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Payne Chapel AME, Colorado Springs, CO. Burial at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
