Carol “June” Matzek, 81, of Falcon, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, June had been a resident of Falcon since 1998, where she built a life filled with warmth, community, and cherished memories.
Born on July 15, 1944, in St. Vincent, Minnesota, to Evelyn and Clifford Grumbo, June grew up in a close-knit family. In 1972, she met Mylo “Matt” Matzek, and the two were united in marriage in 1977, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly five decades. June worked for many years at Stylemark, Inc. in Minnesota before she and Matt relocated to Falcon, Colorado.
June was a woman of many passions, finding joy in baking, traveling, and bowling, through which she forged lasting friendships and touched the lives of many. Her warm spirit extended to her professional life, where she took pride in fitting cadets with their dress uniforms at the U.S. Air Force Academy and working as a part-time salesclerk for a local clothing manufacturer.
June is survived by her devoted husband, Mylo Matzek; her sons: Michael Frost (Carol), Jack Frost (Debbie), and Terry Frost; her grandchildren: Jericho Frost, Brenna Frost (Chris Gonzales), and Ryan Frost (Becca); and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers: Richard Grumbo (Lois), Robert Grumbo (Gayle), and Russell Garnett; and her sisters: Geri Miller, Betty Story (Bill), Kathy Morave, Linda Erickson (Ray), and Genni McAllister (Pete).
June was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Clifford Grumbo, and her daughter, Carla Mae Frost.
A memorial service to celebrate June’s life will be held on October 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Shrine of Remembrance, “America the Beautiful” Chapel, located at 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
June’s kindness, generosity, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.

I have not seen a more appropriate and accurate remembrance. June was everything said above and more. She had a kind and gentle soul and she made the world a better place just by being in it. Her’s was definitely a life well spent! Rest in peace Aunt June – I will never forget you.
Matt we are so sorry for your loss. Even though we only met june once we found her to be a very warm and caring person.
I remember visiting June and Matt a few times when I was a kid living with my parents Raymond and Linda Erickson. We would go visit and I remember how wonderful June was. Those visits had great memories for me personally and I remember them clearly.
Sorry for your loss Matt. You and June were always so kind to us.
Thank you for my fond memories June.
My big sister June. You were always a positive example in my life. I never heard you speak ill about anyone, you had a wonderful sense of humor to go with your cute little laugh, and you helped me out many times in my life when I was first on my own. I always loved our talks. You inadvertently got me hooked on my favorite genre of music – folk. I will fondly think of you every time I hear Peter, Paul, and Mary or the Kingston Trio. Thanks for making a difference in more lives than you ever knew.
Your little brother, “Bobbie John”
Dearest sister June, you will be so missed, not only my sister but also my friend. Growing up with you was quite an adventure and our visits as adults were sometimes a fun fest! I will see you again one day, love you always.
