Darwin “Dar” Lee Howard

Born March 9, 1931, to Leland Oscar Howard and Verla Ann Buck at Idaho Falls, Idaho. Died in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on June 21, 2018, he was 87 years old at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his wife Sherrey J. Howard and his son Jonathan L. Howard. Dar is survived by his two sisters and their spouses: Sharla Diamond (Al), Rena Blackburn (Gale); sons: Michael D. Howard (Eileen), Paul J. Howard (Kimberly) and Julianne Cox (Steven). He also is also survived many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As a young man he worked on potato farms and in grocery stores stocking shelves to help support his family, he also delivered bakery items and watermelons with his father to earn extra money.

Dar enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War on September 7, 1950, and honorably served 4 years.

Dar graduated from the University Utah with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Stanford. He joined Hewlett Packard in 1958 and quickly rose into top management. After an early retirement from HP he was recruited by Kaman Instrumentation Corporation as their President/CEO. He also owned and operated DL Howard and Associates, a management and engineering consulting firm.

Dar married the love of his life, Sherrey Jo-An Bills, on August 21, 1953, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, where they began a great adventure having four children. Through Dar’s work he and Sherrey were able to travel the world, visit and stay in many countries, from Russia to Singapore.

Dar had a great faith, he was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held many positions including that of Bishop, Stake President Counselor, Young Men’s President and many other positions where he had a great and positive impact on those he served.

Dar loved to play golf, go fishing with his sons and spend time with his daughter along with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, son, and father and will never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Visitation 1-2 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8610 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery.
