David Eric Erickson, 69, passed away on January 25, 2017. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 14 years, and was formerly a resident of Paxton, Illinois for 30 years.

David was a man of great faith and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He always put God and his family first. He was a member of Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs. He really enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping in the Rocky Mountains, cooking for his family, and listening to music, especially Elvis.

He was born on January 24, 1948 to Axel Eric Erickson and Ruth (Glover) Erickson in Danville, IL. He spent his childhood and young adult years in Hoopeston, IL, where he was graduated in 1966. He served in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and was awarded two Bronze Stars, one with valor, two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action, the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally meritorious achievement, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge for service under fire, the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Medal for having made more than 24 trips aboard helicopters flying across enemy territory in South Vietnam.

On June 21, 1970, he married Kathy (Reed) Erickson in Hoopeston, IL. His professional career began with the United States Postal Service at the Hoopeston Post Office in 1970. He retired from the USPS as Postmaster in 2001.

David is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Lora Bryant (Dennis) and David Paul Erickson (Lakyn); his sister, Sandy Rector (Don) of Decatur, IL; his granddaughters, Allison Bryant and Faith Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Ruth Erickson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, at Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, CO.
