David V. Vap
David V. Vap, age 87, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Cheyenne Mountain Care Center. He was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1959.
David Vernon Vap was born on March 18, 1924 in Deweese, Nebraska to Enos and Frances (Hlavac) Vap. He served his country in the Navy from July 25, 1942 to January 12, 1946. David married Loretta J. Jorn on October 7, 1948. He began working for the United States Civil Service on October 10, 1950 at the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot and retired from the Air Force Academy on May 5, 1984.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting stamps, and working puzzles. But he loved spending time with his family most of all. His great sense of humor will be sorely missed and his life is well expressed by these three words: Life, Love, Laughter.
David is survived by his wife, Loretta; his children: Linda Clark, David (wife Karen) Vap, Peg (husband Kevin) Virden, Robert Vap, Lisa (husband Andy) Smith; his grandchildren: Kerrigan Clark, Catherine Matthynssens, Kimberley Belsky, Heather Virden, Nikki Virden, Rachel Smith, Bradley Smith, and Eric Smith; his great-grandchildren: Kristin Clark, Courtney Clark, Kylynn Clark, Ashton Clark, Logan Matthynssens, Collin Matthynssens, Ethan Belsky, and Abby Belsky; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; a son, James; and a grandson, Christopher Clark.
David’s family would like to thank the staff of Cheyenne Mountain Care Center for the loving care he received from the compassionate CNA’s, nurses, therapists and support staff.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N. Logan Avenue. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
