Donald B. Atkinson, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021.
Donald was born on August 23, 1930 to Joseph Leo Atkinson and Neva Gladys (Lunsford) Atkinson in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1950 and married Lillian Mary Nicewicz on February 11, 1956 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
He served his country in the United States Navy for four years and was a Korean War Veteran. He also worked as an aircraft mechanic (aviation technician), and was a union electrician for IBEW #113.
He enjoyed building model airplanes, going fishing and camping, and just being outdoors.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lillian; his children: William Atkinson (wife Pat), Dave Atkinson, and Nina McClure; a nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and three sisters.
Private family services are planned and inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum. Memorials in Donald’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
