Donald E. McClain, 89, born in Evansville, Indiana on May 10, 1928 to Walter McClain and Lorena Lehr, passed away on October 14, 2017.

Surviving are his wife Ruth; 13 children: Rebecca (Russ Pascoe) of Vancouver, Washington, Michael (Mary Beth) of Folsom California, Mark (Aura) of Citrus Heights, California, David (Kelley) of Elk Grove, California, Jane (Tami) of Medford, Oregon, Nancy Moos (Philip) of Sandy, Utah, Lisa Clark (Shane) of Biloxi, Mississippi, Patricia Vaughn (Gary), Ann Moomey (Rusty), Donna Welch (Gary), Mary (Deb), Susan (Annette) and Jennifer (Chris) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Don was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 41 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring, he was a tour guide in Colorado for 7 years. He was active in Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, serving as editor of the newsletter and volunteering for a 2-week building project in Nicaragua.

Don and his wife of 67 years, also were active in refugee work and working with engaged couples at Holy Apostles Church.

Don’s hobbies were traveling and gardening. He loved writing, history, music, and keeping in contact with all his children and grandchildren. He also directed many variety shows at Divine Redeemer School and dinner shows at St. Mary’s High School. He loved working with students and parents.

His children will remember him for his faith, humor, and love of life and family.

A Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Pines, 11020 Teachout Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908 at 11am on Thursday, October 19, 2017. There will be viewing prior to the service, starting at 10:30am. Reception will follow Mass at the fellowship hall.
