Donald E. Staudte – May 14, 2025

It is with immeasurable love and thankfulness for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Donald E. Staudte; a loving father and grandfather, age 82, passed away on May 14, 2025.  He was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO, for over sixty years and was formerly a resident of Maywood, IL, where he was born and raised.  He was the proud owner of Donaldson’s Lawn Care for thirty years and was previously employed at the Broadmoor Hotel, for twenty-five years, where he was the superintendent of the grounds department.

Donald was born on May 23, 1942, to Adolph and Ethel (Asmus) Staudte in Maywood, IL. On September 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Karen J. (Brooks), beginning a partnership rooted in love, commitment, and faith. After marrying, Don and Karen returned to Colorado where he continued to study at Colorado State University. After graduating from CSU, they moved to Colorado Springs where they raised their family.  

Don was fond of the outdoors, playing tennis, watching sports, tinkering in the garage, and spending time with his family. He reveled in watching the game of ice hockey and was involved in the local hockey community for many years. He was also a dedicated member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved children, Scott (Carin) and Cheryl (Chris); his brother, Ralph (Martha); his adored grandchildren: Ashley, Rachel (Zachary), Ty (Taylor), Kelsey (Zach) and Sara (Brennen); and his cherished great-grandchildren: Noah, Luke, Braxton, Remi, Mia, Peyton and Blakelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family service will be held to honor his memory. Memorials in Donald E. Staudte’s name may be made to the Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation.

He will be remembered for his patience, determination, resiliency, strong work ethic, and love for his family along with his sense of humor. Don’s life was marked by kindness, generosity and a quiet strength that touched all who knew him. He will forever be remembered.
