Edgar William Jenkins

Edgar William Jenkins, age 94, passed away on December 10, 2014. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 47 years and formerly a resident of North Platte, Nebraska. He retired as an auditor with Farmers Insurance Group.

Ed was born on December 20, 1919 to William Southall Jenkins and Annetta Katarina (Prenzler) Jenkins in Belmond, Iowa. On December 9, 1945 he married Ruth Luceal Gantenbein in Belmond, Iowa.

Ed was fond of anything electrical. He attended the University of Iowa, graduated in 1943, and immediately served in the United States Navy, for three years. This is where he learned his love of radio and worked with the Armed Forces Radio Network and then went into radio broadcasting at KOEL in Oelwein, Iowa. Ed also worked for Farmers Insurance Group and was transferred to Colorado Springs in 1967. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served the Lord for years as a volunteer by running the Sanctuary sound system. After retiring in 1982, he and Ruth traveled all over the world. He loved genealogy and the computer was his best friend. He emailed his family a “picture of the day” every day for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Jenkins; his daughters: Linda Lambeth (Terry), Christine Rose (Bud), Beth Schroeder (Rob), and Sue Hayward (Ken); his grandchildren: Mindy Curtis (Kevin), Christopher Eddins (Angie), Jeanette Gold (Brandon), Gabrielle Rose, Kyle Schroeder (Lisa), Kim Schroeder, Kent Schroeder, Andrew Hayward and Johnathan Hayward; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bill and Annetta Jenkins; his sisters and brother-in-law: Ethel Ross (Raymond) and Leona Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903 with a reception to follow.
