Edward D. Welch, Sr., a Colorado Springs resident since the mid 1940’s, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 19, 2012. He formerly resided in Dover, New Jersey and Ogallala, Nebraska. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Colorado Springs.
Edward was born on January 24, 1928 in Wharton, New Jersey to Michael F. and Charlotte M. (Kenney) Welch. He married Zella M. Carpenter in Dover, New Jersey on November 27, 1946. He served his country in the Army and was a WWII Veteran. He was a Firefighter with the USAFA and had also been a Fire Inspector at Grissom Air Force Base in Indiana. He also worked at Penrose Hospital for 13 years. He was a very talented artist who created beautiful oil paintings that he often gave away. Edward was also an avid traveler and loved his time in Ireland.
Edward is survived by three sons: Stephen A. Welch (wife Charlotte), Patrick J. Welch (wife Terry), and Gregory P. Welch (wife Susan); a brother, William Welch; two sisters: Bernadette Otto, and Trudy Conroy; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Welch; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Zella; and three children: Edward D. Welch, Jr., Constance Welch, and Carol Ann Welch.
A Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1520 East Yampa Street. A reception will follow the service at the church.
