Elizabeth M. Smith
Elizabeth M. Smith, age 98, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1940. She worked at various jobs and retired from the Customer Service Department of the Public Utilities in 1978 after 13 years of service.
Elizabeth was born on June 12, 1913 in Cedar County, Missouri to Robert Austin and Gracie Milton (Skinner) O’Dell. She attended Sheridan Community High School in Hoxie, Kansas and following graduation she received a teaching certificate from the state of Kansas. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse for about five years. She married Dale C. Smith on July 23, 1938 in Sheridan County, Kansas.
She was an involved member of East United Methodist Church, and an active senior member of Curves. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children: Vida (husband Randy) Miller; Del (wife Marsha) Smith, Richard (wife Lolly) Smith; one sister, Nelda Reed of Lebanon, Oregon; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and five brothers.
A Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. and a reception to follow, all at East United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
