Elsa E. Garrett, age 84, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1971, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by her immediate family. She was a military wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Elsa Edna Oberto was born on October 31, 1928 in La Pintada, Panama to the late Rafael Ulpiano Oberto Arosemena and Celerina Solanilla de Oberto. She married Albert Nicholson Garrett, III on August 2, 1954 in the Canal Zone. She was a member of the Divine Redeemer Catholic Community and The Retired Enlisted Association. Elsa loved her years as a military wife, setting up homes around the world for her family. She cherished the years spent abroad in Germany and the Republic of Panama. Her years in Germany lead to a lifetime of collecting the works of Sister Berta Hummel. Elsa also loved dancing, music, and laughter. She cherished the many friendships she had and was adored by her husband who was the love of her life.

She is survived by her husband: SGM Albert Nicholson Garrett, III, USA (Ret.) of Colorado Springs; four children: Delsa (Ron) Rose of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Albert (Laura) Garrett, IV of Colorado Springs; Cheryl (Keith) Dritlein of Aurora, Colorado; and Ralph Garrett of Colorado Springs.

Elsa has eight wonderful grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother: Rafael (Celina) Oberto and sisters Amelia (Marcelino) Moreno; Vilma (William) Dodd; Judith (Roberto) Mirones and Margarita (Felipe) Nino. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dalys Whitworth.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 North Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
