Ernest Lamar Boykins Jr. – March 26, 2026

Ernest Lamar Boykins Jr. was born on July 20, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 10, he moved with his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he grew into a hardworking, talented, and deeply passionate man.

At 18 years old, Ernest proudly enlisted in the United States military. During his service, he not only served his country with honor but also pursued his education. He earned his degree as a sous chef and furthered his skills through vocational training, obtaining certifications in carpentry and several other trades. His dedication reflected his strong work ethic and desire to build a better future.

After his military service, Ernest continued to apply his many talents in civilian life. He had a deep love for sports, especially basketball, and could often be found enjoying or talking about the game. He also had a passion for music, particularly R&B and soul, which brought him joy and comfort throughout his life.

Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Boykins Sr.; his mother, Mildred Lee Baker Boykins Nelson; his stepfather, Willie B. Nelson; his brothers, Julius Nelson, Ricky Nelson, Wesley Nelson, and Warren B. Nelson; his nephew, Jerome Nelson; and the love of his life, Adrian Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Mahnaz Brown; his beloved grandchildren, Tra’Myia Brown and Adonis Shannon; his sister, Venus Nelson; his brother, Archie Nelson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ernest will be remembered for his strength, his resilience, and the selfless love he gave to those around him.
