Eugene R. Kauhane, 87 years old, passed away on October 19, 2021. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 41 years.

   Eugene R. Kauhane was born on August 17, 1934 to Robert P. Kauhane and Annette (Chong) Kauhane in Honolulu, HI.  On February 6, 1960, he married Gloria Ann Kauhane in Salina, KS.

   He is survived by his sons: Rodney (wife, Sharon) of Savannah, GA, and Bradley (wife, Mary) of Colorado Springs, CO; his sister, Velma Warpole; his grandchildren, Derek Kauhane, Kristen Kauhane, Erin Kauhane, Bethany Hendricks (husband, Cameron), Audrey Kauhane, James Kauhane; and his great-grandchild, Vera Long; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Ann Kauhane, and his daughter, Lisa Kauhane; his brothers, Robert Kauhane and Harry Kauhane; and his sister, Gladys Slabaugh.

   Eugene was fond of woodworking, loved to cook, and was a big fan of the Denver Broncos.  He was a devout Catholic and was a member of Mary Help of Christians.  He attended Kaimuki school in Honolulu, HI, and graduated in 1953.  He served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, including a tour of duty in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Being in the military required him and his family to move to various places, including Montana, Japan, Kansas, Virginia, and California.  He was dedicated to his military service and was a very generous and loving man. 

   A visitation will be held at 8:30am with the Rosary at 9:30am on the 28th of October at Mary Help of Christians, 920 E. Cache La Poudre, Colorado Springs, CO 80903, and followed by a funeral Mass at the same location. The burial will be at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925 at 12pm. A reception will be held at the church following the burial.

   Memorials in Eugene’s name may be made to ASPCA, and the USO.

    1. We are sending condolences to you Rodney and Bradley and your families. We are so sorry to hear about your dad.
      We enjoyed your parents so much and we have been remembering the good times we had with them especially when they lived in Salina, Ks. They were so much fun and we were always amazed at your dad and how quickly he became professional when he put on his uniform and badge as he got ready for work at Schilling Air Base.
