Our mother, Eva Matos de Rosado, the greatest mother in the universe (briefly from Broomfield and formerly from Colorado Springs, CO) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 9, 2025. She was 86 years old.

Born to Felipe Matos Bernier and Antonia Lomba Medina on May 29, 1938 in Ponce, Puerto Rico (USA), our Mami graduated High School from Colegio San Conrado, before marrying the love of her life and our Papi, Pablo Manuel Rosado Tirado on December 8, 1962 after a seven-year-courtship. He lovingly referred to her as his “Diosa Linda” (Beautiful Goddess). Our parents spent 47 devoted years together, while Mami remained true to their love for another 23 beyond his passing in 2002.

A self declared “domestic engineer and artist,” our mother’s many creative interests included sewing, watercolor painting, and most recently, handcrafted polymer clay jewelry as a member of the Polymer Clay Guild of Colorado Springs. Everything she elected to do she did with passion and unwavering dedication. A self-taught seamstress from childhood, it would be fair to say that if a sewing machine could be considered a musical instrument, she reached virtuoso status. An accomplished fashion designer skilled at drafting her own patterns, and handcrafting anything from glamorous wedding gowns under the business name Novias MariEva, to intricate professional skydiving jumpsuits under the business name Eva Suits, the latter of which drew the attention of both the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights and the U.S. Navy’s Leap Frogs, to whom she provided jumpsuits for five consecutive seasons. As if that were not enough, she also fit in a fashion swimwear collection in between. Her hallmarks were attention to detail, craftsmanship, and durability, so much so that the logo for Eva Suits was a falling anvil inspired by a comment made by the Golden Knights in their personal thank you letter. Our Mami, also kept immaculate home, ferried all of us to our school events and practices, sewed prom dresses and both her daughter’s wedding dresses, loved dogs and cats, was an avid gardener, and amateur bird watcher, but her greatest pleasure was being “Abu” to her grandson William.

She is survived by her children: Maria Skweres (Kris), Eva Maria Kirkman (Stephen), Manuel Rosado (Lauren), and her grandson William Kirkman. She was preceded in death by our Papi Pablo, her parents Felipe and Antonia, and her sister Ada Castillo.

Funeral services and interment will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 South Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs. Interment will be at the Cemetery.

We encourage donations be made in her honor to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, stjude.org/donatetoday or to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Association. Help us improve treatment.
