Francis B. “Steve” Stephens born April 10, 1937 left the bonds of this earthly life and joined his Savior Jesus Christ on August 28, 2019 after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mr. Stephens had been a doorman for the Broadmoor hotel, Colorado Springs, Colorado for thirty-five years. First starting at the age of seventeen and retiring in 1990.

In 1958 Steve and Shirley Ann Bartels were joined in holy matrimony by Rev. Walter Enge of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Francis LaRue Stephens (father), Donnica (Gonzales) Stephens (mother); and brother, William Stephens.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; son, Wayne Stephens (Tina) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Linda Perry of Aurora, CO, Sandra Richardson (Tim) of Canon City, CO; stepchildren, CJ Stites (Lineze), Kaylee Stites, Ashleigh Williams; grandchildren, Ryan Richardson, Christopher Perry, Courtney Clark (Mike), Carley Perry, Megan Hughes (David Tozier), Andrew Stephens; greatgrandchildren, Hailey Ann Richardson (Tozier), Landon Clark, Haydon Clark, Aleeysia Stites, and Declan Stites.

Steve enjoyed traveling in the family RV seeing the wonders of his beloved America. As an avid gardener Steve shared the beauty and joy flowers can bring to us. He was a quiet man but with a quick humor. Steve loved to read and would tell the youngsters reading was the key to knowledge and understanding.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, and in memory of Steve, a gift of support to be given to Sangre de Cristo Hospice of Canon City, CO.

With grateful hearts the Stephens wish to thank all the care givers who attended Steve and gave comfort to Shirley during Steve’s illness. May God bless you all.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00p.m. Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. Reverend Debra Taft will officiate.
