Frank Mack, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away April 22, 2014.
Frank was born in Rockville, Connecticut on April 10, 1920 to Frank Clayton Mack and Frances (Ciechowski) Mack. He married Louise Buser and they had 70 happy years until her passing 5 years ago.
Frank was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and was stationed at Hickam Field during the attack. He spent the remainder of WWII mapping strategic sites in North Africa and the Pacific with a photo recon air wing.
Frank supported the first class curriculum development of First Cadre US Air Force Academy and moved the Academy to its present site. He saw the first class graduate.
Frank retired from the US Air Force in Alaska (Elmendorf AFB) Strategic Air Command in 1962. After retirement Frank and Louise enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their dream house in the Black Forest for some 30 years before moving to a retirement community in Colorado Springs.
He is survived by the couple’s 3 daughters and 2 sons.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Air Force Academy Cemetery Chapel. Please note that Academy guests who do NOT hold a valid military ID MUST enter through the North Gate and stop at the guard post for permission and a map to the Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Frank asked that donations be made to The Greatest Generation Foundation.
