December 9, 1943 – July 29, 2021

G. Lawrence Burnett, 77, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 in his longtime home in Colorado Springs with his wife at his side.

He was born on December 9, 1943 in Salida, Colorado to Alice and Grover Burnett, PhD and lived in Colorado Springs since 1946. He married his high school sweetheart Linda Lee Rowe on June 2, 1962 at Trinity Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.

He and Linda were married for 59 years and had four children, three of whom survive him. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife Linda, son Brian (Marilyn) Burnett, PhD of Birmingham, AL, and daughters Cindy (Jerry) Stidham and Melissa (Bret) Bernal of Colorado Springs. Son Kevin passed away just days after being born in 1971. He is survived by seven loving grandchildren and six great grandchildren, sister Fran (Jerry) Tucker of Hoxie, AR, brother JB Cox of McLean, VA and many nieces and nephews.

He was a 1961 graduate of Palmer High School and was a land surveyor and planner for several area firms for over 40 years. His work in designing hundreds of streets and neighborhoods in the area since the 1960s made an indelible mark on the remarkable growth of the city and Pikes Peak region.

He was elected to three terms as the El Paso County Surveyor and enjoyed serving the people of the region as a public servant. He will be dearly missed by his loving and extended family.

Services will be held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. There will be a private family interment at the church at a later date.
