
Gary Carl George of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on September 25, 2025, at 76 years old. He was born in Alliance, Nebraska on October 12, 1948, to Mariam Jean and Carl George.
Gary graduated from Rangely high school in Rangley, Colorado in 1967. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California from March 1968 to March 1972. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, he worked with Amtracs and was Military Police. Once his enlistment ended, Gary volunteered with the Colorado Mounted Rangers Troop C until he joined the United States Air Force in September 1974. During most of his Air Force career, he was an Aircraft Mechanic working on B-52 Bombers at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia and Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. He also maintained KC-135 Refuelers at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Before Gary retired from the Air Force in October 1990 as a Non-commissioned Officer, he worked in the Maintenance Group at Peterson Air Force Base. After retirement he enjoyed playing in several pool leagues in Colorado Springs. In the early 90s, he also had an amazing opportunity to play in an international pool tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gary was very active as a volunteer with the Marine Corps League (MCL) for over 10 years. He was on their board as Judge Advocate; he helped coordinate the annual Toys for Tots program and rode his motorcycle with the MCL in many local parades. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs (MODD) where he held the position of Jr. Vice Pound Keeper. One of Gary’s favorite things to do was attending the many Marine Corps balls over the years.
Gary is survived by his wife, Karen of 54 years; and four daughters: Shelene Lewis, Lorenda Thomas – Wright, Cassie Howells (Mike), and Fern Michael (Brett). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Christopher, Courtney, Ravyn, Nolan, Korvyn, Kayden and Warren; and one great grandson, Beckett. Also survived are his three sisters: Sheryl Akins, Karen Luque and Pam Day; and several nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Mariam; father, Carl; and two brothers, Darrel and Kennneth “Kenny”.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Reception will immediately follow at DAV 6880 Palmer Park Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80915.

Karen, Sheryl, Karen, and Pam, and families; I am so sorry for your loss. Gary had a great sense of humor. He had a wonderful relationship with my parents. He will be missed and May he rest in peace.
