August 29, 1992 – September 12, 2025
Gary Stone died at home in Colorado Springs on September 12, 2025 due to Huntington’s Disease.
Gary Dale White was born to Cheryl White on August 29, 1992 in Dayton, Ohio. Circumstances in his early childhood found him living with relatives Terry and Aaron Shaw for five years, where he enjoyed being read stories and playing outdoors. In 2000, he moved to Colorado to live with relatives Mary Ellen and Rocky Stone and their three children. He was adopted by them in 2003. There were some challenges in the adjustment, but he was nevertheless loved by his new family and was affectionately known as Gare-Bear.
He loved video games, fantasy and action stories, and sweet treats.
Starting in 8th grade until his graduation in 2011, Gary attended St John’s Military School in Salina, Kansas, where he excelled in academics and leadership. He served as the Cadet Battalion Commander in his Junior year. He briefly attended Colorado State University where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, and then joined the Army. While he didn’t stay in the Army after basic training, he continued to hold high respect for his military friends.
He met Maggie Campos and they married in October of 2019. They were a loving and devoted couple for the 11 years they shared together.
Gary was known for taking misfortunes, both big and small, in stride and with humor, particularly the time he got peed on by a tapir at the Denver Zoo (a favorite story that’s retold at many family gatherings). Gary faced many hardships in his life including gastroschisis, testicular cancer, and ultimately Huntington’s Disease. Despite all of life’s complications, Gary was known for his positive outlook-a trait admired by many. He will be remembered for his kindness and good heart.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie; mother-in-law, Pamela Campos; adoptive parents, Mary Ellen Hinkle (Doug) and Robert “Rocky” Stone (Patsy); siblings: Vickie Stone (Jeff Wagner), Mary Beth Padalecki (Cody), Billie Katherine Stone, J.D. Hinkle; his adoptive grandmother, Cathy Liss; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and family and friends from all over.
A wake will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 2pm at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
