Born in St. Louis, Missouri. Passed away suddenly of heart failure.

Jerry’s distinguished military career took him around the world. After 22 years, he retired in his beloved Colorado Springs to start a new career with The Colorado Department of Corrections as Director of Prisons. During this time, he developed and started the program, 7 Habits on The Inside, improving the prison environment and lives of prisoners and parolees. Based on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. This program has spread to military and federal installations and other state prison systems.

He was a visionary leader and mentor, always helping others to achieve their potential. After retirement from The Department of Corrections, he continued to volunteer with the 7 Habits program and was a long-time volunteer at Garden of the Gods.

Jerry loved hiking, the outdoors, exercise and washing his car. He was loved by all!

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane, of 52 years; sisters, Peggy Wertz and Tina Victor; and preceded in death by his beloved son, Kurt.

Service: Visitation at 9:00am with rosary, Mass at 10:00am St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive.
