Gerardo “Gerry” Martinez – July 24, 2025

Gerardo “Gerry” Martinez, age 68, was called home to our Lord Jesus Christ on July 24, 2025. A man of deep faith and quiet strength, Gerry had made his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado since 2017, after more than 25 years in the Denver area.

Born on November 5, 1956, in Nogales, Arizona, to Jose Gerardo and Alicia (Oros) Martinez, Gerry was raised in Yuma, Arizona. He graduated from Kofa High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

Gerry lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A devoted Catholic, he found great joy in the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. He gave generously of his time and heart, always placing the needs of others before his own.

He is survived by Elaine, his loving wife of 46 years; his beloved godchildren: Christian, Alondra, and Daniel Lopez, and Jocelyn and Ricardo Martinez; and his siblings: Norma, Adrian, and Ernesto Martinez.

Services will be held in celebration of Gerry on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 with a 9:30AM Rosary, and 10:00AM Mass following at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 Jefferson Street, Monument, Colorado 80132. A reception will be held immediately afterward at the St. Peter Parish Ministry Center, across the street from the church. Inurnment will take place at 2:00PM at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerry’s name to the Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs, 228 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

    Just learned about Gerry. We at St. Mary’s are so sorry for your loss. I had just received a text from him on the 17th. Will say a rosary for him tomorrow at the cathedral. My husband Dave and I both thought alot of him. I will set up a mass intention for him tomorrow at the cathedral. Our prayers are with you and the family.

    I am sorry to hear that Gerry has passed. I knew him in high school. He was one of a core group of friends who helped all of navigate high school in the 70’s. As so often happens, I lost track of him (and Elaine) He was always a gentle soul. I know he will be missed by family and friends. Condolences to all of them and the community that loved him.
