
Gloria Jean (Humphrey) Foster passed away on Saturday, July 19th, 2025. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, July 27th, 1937. She graduated in 1955 from Buffalo, MO High School. While in high school she played the bass violin in the school orchestra and was the drum major of the high school marching band. After high school, she attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, graduating as a registered nurse in 1958.
Gloria married her high school classmate, Richard A. “Dick” Foster on August 31st, 1958, the weekend after graduating from nursing school and after Dick completed his undergraduate education at Southwest Missouri University in Springfield, MO. Together, they moved immediately to Kansas City, where she worked as an OBGYN nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, while Dick was in Dental School. They were married for 58 years and were the parents of three children, Robin, Ronald, and Russell. Gloria and Dick made a joint decision for Dick to join the Army Dental Corps after graduating from Dental School. They made a career of this decision. Their first assignment was to the Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by twelve other assignments including Ft. Ord, CA, Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA, Ft. Carson, CO, Washington, DC, Carlisle, PA, Heidelberg, FRG, Ft. Hood, TX and several other assignments. In each move, Gloria was a full-time homemaker and very actively supported the distaff duties of her husband’s military duties. She received many awards in support of military families. They retired to Colorado Springs, CO in September of 1991.
Over her lifetime, Gloria enjoyed traveling, skating, skiing, ballroom dancing, and square dancing. She also enjoyed playing the guitar and violin and singing, painting, sewing, and many crafts.
Preceding her in death is her husband, sons, Russell Foster and Ronald Foster, her sister, Glenda Greene, and her brother-in-law Thomas Foster. She is survived by their daughter, Robin Huffman, her husband, Maurice, grandson, Miles Huffman, of Corning and Chico, CA, her sister-in-law Judy and her nephew, Jason, of Wichita, KS, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on September 5 at 11:00 AM at the Broadmoor Community Church.
