Goldean Marie Stansbury Thomas Ybanez
1924 – 2014

Goldean was born in Bayfield, Wisconsin, and passed peacefully on April 12, 2014 at the Garden Inn in Colorado Springs.

She was the eldest of 7 children to Floyd and Kathryn West Stansbury. She attended school in Downing, Wisconsin and graduated from high school.

When she left Downing the population of the town dropped from 300 to 299 due to her departure……..a very small town to grow up in.

She played the trumpet in the school band and later played in a dance band for several years in Chicago, which was of course a very big life style change for her, and she seemed to embrace the big city.

Goldean came back to her roots and married Arvid C. Thomas and that was the beginning of her life as an army wife in 1944. Goldean traveled and lived at many Army bases in Texas, New York, Virginia and Colorado. Oh, and also Asmara, Ethiopia. Three daughters were born from this union, Sharon Summers, Linda Savage and Sandra Stovern

She worked part time in retail from her early high school years until her full retirement.

She then did volunteer work for veteran’s organizations until she was no longer able. She was a proud member of The Retired Enlisted Men’s Association, the VFW #3917, the Ladies Auxiliary and The Sertoma Club and enjoyed participating in the yearly Colorado Springs Veteran’s Parades.

One of her most loving accomplishments was helping to raise her oldest granddaughter, Stacy and her youngest granddaughter, Carrie. They have received her very special love and devotion.

After the death of her first husband, she remarried to Albert G. Ybanez. They continued doing volunteer work and traveling to many states and to Washington DC. She truly enjoyed attending the annual convention for the Retired Enlisted Men’s Association which was held each year in different states.

Goldean was survived by her daughters, Sharon, Linda, and Sandee (and son-in-law Gary); 7 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Betty, Doreen, and Ann; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death is one brother, William; and twin sisters, Arlyss and Ardythe; and parents, Floyd and Kathryn Stansbury.

She was a very loyal wife, loving mother, and dedicated grandmother and will always be treasured and missed by those of us in this world and held and loved by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
