Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendez

Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendez, 60, resident of Colorado Springs since 2005, passed away on December 31, 2012. He was a loving husband, father, sibling, and friend.

Lupe was born on November 7, 1952 in Galveston, Texas to Manuel and Elena Mendez, the youngest of seven children. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 18 and transitioned to the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country and retired after 21 years of service. He married his wife Eleanor “Sue” Mendez in 1974 while he was in the service, and they had three sons together: Richard Sean, Matthew Lee, and Eric Guadalupe Mendez.

Upon his retirement, he and Sue settled in Colorado Springs where he worked at Carmax and “never met a stranger because he was always a friend.” Everyone who had the fortune to encounter Lupe found him to be loving, dedicated, humorous, happy, and a car enthusiast. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his wife Sue; three sons: Richard, Matthew, and Eric; his siblings Mary Aguilar, Manuel Mendez, Ernest Mendez, Carmen Amador; his son Richard’s wife, Amy Mendez; and his grandson, Carter Mendez born to Matthew. Waiting for him in heaven are his parents, as well his brothers: Andrew and Daniel Mendez.

A Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 with a Rosary to follow at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. all at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. “Those we Love remain with us.
For Love itself lives on.
Cherished memories never fade,
Because one loved is gone.
Those we Love can never be,
More than a thought apart,
For as long as there’s a memory,
They live on in our heart.”
