Herbert L. Jones
November 28, 1925 – January 9, 2014

Herbert L. Jones was born November 28, 1925 in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Wilford C. Jones and Zemla E. Jones who preceded him in death. He grew up with five siblings in Lawrence, Kansas.

Herb was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for nearly sixty years. He established three Assembly of God churches in Williamstown, Kansas; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as serving as interim pastor in Lawrence, Kansas at the First Assembly of God Church. During his summers as a biblical studies major, attending the then Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri. Herb was also a young evangelist and trombonist. Later, when retired from his pastorate, Herb traveled to Hong Kong, China; Thailand; and Belize on numerous mission trips with his bride of nearly sixty years, Jane (Buchwalter) Jones, whom he married in 1947 and who preceded him in death.

Herb is survived by his present wife, Barbara (McNamara); his daughters: Beverly (David) Lewis and Barbara (Dale) Birch; his grandchildren: Julie Buxman Garcia, Janie and Jonathan Buxman, and Amy Birch Russell; his great-grandchildren: Ariel Buxman, Elizabeth Birch, and Brendan and Avianna Russell; his brothers: Lyman Jones of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Fred Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his sisters: Aleta Hirschberg, Iris Jones, and Judith Verhage all of Lawrence, Kansas.

Herb was known to worship his Heavenly Father to the stirring strains of Southern Gospel music and was eager to share his faith, and his joy in knowing the Lord, with everyone he met. His heart was tuned to furthering the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through preaching, evangelistic work, prayer for the sick, and his monthly newsletter which he published for forty-five years.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Friendship Assembly of God, 3685 Bloomington Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
