On Sunday, September 8, 2019, Janice Joan Gilland (Weiss), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 86 in Colorado Springs, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on January 3, 1933, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Janice was the youngest of four daughters. The family moved from Wisconsin to California and eventually to Colorado Springs, where Jan graduated from Palmer High School.

Janice met Charles A. Gilland, the love of her life, when she was working as a soda jerk at Ralph’s Drug Store. The two were married soon after on September 12, 1953 and began their life together.

When Charles joined the Army in the 1950s and shipped out from Fort Ord, Janice traveled with him to Carmel, California, where she had fond memories of enjoying the sunny beaches and spending time with her sisters.

After completing his service duties, Chuck and Jan settled back in Colorado Springs, where their only child, Larry, was born in 1959.

Janice had an eye for design, and she greatly enjoyed working as a real estate agent for several years. She always loved keeping up on the latest styles in fashion and home decor, and she was artistic herself, with a talent for sketching as well as painting ceramics.

Janice enjoyed travel, particularly anyplace warm, and throughout her life, she and her family toured much of the United States by car, and later, by cruise ships. She loved going out to eat—ending any meal she could with a scoop of chocolate ice cream—and it meant a lot to her to be able to treat others or to get them something special.

She will be remembered for her quick sense of humor, her knowledge of royal family gossip, and her beautiful and compassionate spirit.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Irving Joseph Weiss and Amelia Weiss (Weigandt); and her sisters, Elaine, Betty, and Carol. She is survived by her husband, Charles; her son, Larry (wife, Mary); and her granddaughter, Heather (husband, Jason).
