Jeffrey N. Hengel
Jeffrey N. Hengel, age 52, a resident of Colorado Springs since 2005 and formerly of Spring Valley, California, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at his home. He was an accountant for Langston Concrete Inc. in Pueblo and had formerly worked with Four Mile Ranch in Canon City and Pikes Peak Behavioral Health. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Jeff was born on February 22, 1960 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to Norbert H. and Phyllis M. (Janachovsky) Hengel. He was a 1978 graduate of Wabasso High School and later, the University of Phoenix in San Diego, California where he received his BS in Accounting. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego. It was in San Diego where he met and married Susan Ann Cortopassi on October 20, 1990.
This man of faith was a wonderful father and had attended the Bonita Valley Baptist Church and had been a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs since 2006. He also served as a confirmation mentor at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Jeff will be best remembered for his love of family and friends and his willingness to help others. Jeff enjoyed gardening, cooking, time with family, and helping others in need.
He is survived by his wife: Susan; and his children: Jessica and Seth. Jeff is survived by his mother: Phyllis Hengel of Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He is also survived by two brothers: Daniel (wife Deborah) Hengel of Elbow Lake, Minnesota; and David Hengel of Milroy, Minnesota; five sisters: Diane (husband, Allen “Weasel”) Rolick of Renville, Minnesota; Julie (husband, David) Rothmeier of Wabasso, Minnesota; Juanita “Bunny” Then of Alexandria, Minnesota; Jill (husband, Bruce) Schwitalla of Buffalo, Minnesota; and Darlene (husband, Curt) Thomez of Waterville, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norbert Hengel, his brother, Doug, and his sister, Judy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4925 Farmingdale Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917. A reception will follow the services at the church. Private inurnment will be at the Bethel Lutheran Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jeffrey N. Hengel Memorial Fund in care of the family.
