Jerry Carl Johannessen, a Colorado Springs resident for 36 years, passed away April 1, 2012. He was a retired Flight Engineer for the United States Air Force and had also worked as a Sears Service Technician for 20 years.

Jerry was born on September 22, 1937 in Mason City, Iowa to Leland and Irene (Anderson) Johannessen. He married his high school sweetheart, Judy Nicolaus, on February 9, 1958.

He enjoyed travelling and once had a very memorable trip to Australia. He also loved Air Force Academy football and doing yardwork. He was affectionately called the “Neighborhood Watch”. He dearly loved his sons, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of them.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons: Jeff Johannessen and Mark Johannessen; a granddaughter, Nicole Clark; and two great-grandchildren: Kristopher Clark and Madalynn Clark. His brother, Leland Johannessen preceded him in death.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to the Air Force Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 97026, Washington, D.C. 2007-7193 or to Disabled American Veterans at DAV Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
