Jessie L Mercer, age 86, went home to be with Our Lord November 29, 2017.
Jessie was born on January 31, 1931 to Louis E. Halstead and Mina L. (Graham) Halstead in Gilbert, Arizona. She graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1951 and later The Colorado School of Nursing, being licensed as a practical nurse. She worked at Penrose Hospital until being medically retired.
On October 4, 1952 she married James E. Mercer in Colorado Springs. Following the death of her husband in 1993, Jessie lived in Cornell Wisconsin with her son, Jim. In 2012 Jessie moved to Apache Junction, Arizona to be with her daughter, Barbara.
Jessie was fond of spending time with her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, doll-making, and other crafts for friends and family, and had an appreciation for Christian fiction.
She was a long-time member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Colorado Springs where she served in the nursery and made many friends.
She is survived by her children: John (Yolanda), of San Antonio, Texas, Jim (Kathy), of Cornell, Wisconsin, Barbara Maynard, of Apache Junction, Arizona, Rich, of Cornell, Wisconsin, and David, of Arizona; her grandchildren: Daniel, Cisco, Felicia, Junior, Jaime, Mike, Teri, Tom, Tim, Michelle, Jackie, Amy, Scott, and JD; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Edward Mercer, Sr.; her parents: Louis and Mina Halstead; her siblings: Richard, Robert, Ethel, and Lois; and one daughter, Elizabeth Diana.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 7 with visitation one-hour prior all at First Christian Church, 16 East Platte Avenue. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following.
