Joan L. Pruitt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.
Born on September 26, 1940, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Malcolm and Hazel Wilson, Joan lived a life filled with love, faith, and a deep appreciation for nature. She attended high school in McKinney, TX and graduated with a degree in education from Texas Tech. She was known for her warm heart and the way she made every person she met feel welcomed and valued. She touched countless lives through her kindness and unwavering belief in the goodness of people.
Joan married the love of her life, Sidney Pruitt, on August 31, 1967, and together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and enduring devotion. Their marriage was an example of love and commitment that inspired everyone who knew them. Joan and Sidney cherished their time driving through the mountains, searching for wildlife to photograph. These adventures brought them immense joy and strengthened their bond.
Joan was a dedicated homemaker whose greatest priority and joy in life were her children. She poured her heart into creating a loving, nurturing home where her family always knew they were cherished. Throughout her life, Joan was a source of unwavering love, strength, and guidance for her family and friends.
She was a devoted mother to Michele Henning and her husband, Jeff, of Downingtown, PA; Michael Pruitt and his wife, Dani, of Parachute, CO; Shane Pruitt and his wife, Julie, of Colorado Springs, CO; and Amanda Pruitt of Colorado Springs, CO. She was a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren; and great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren. Her love and guidance will live on in each of them.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Linda Marshall of Garland, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Hazel Wilson; and her brother, John Robert Wilson.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on September 6, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. Sidney, so sorry to hear of your loss. We have lost so many of our class. I guess that is what happens at our age. Hope you are doing fine.
I’m sending you all love and hugs in the loss of your mom. She was such a kind and giving soul that will be greatly missed.
Joan was an amazing and lovely woman. We are sure she will be dearly missed by her family.
Sie, sorry for your loss. I wish I had met Joan. She had to be a special person.
Joan was a classmate in McKinney schools and a “forever friend.” My thoughts and prayers for Sydney and their family and for her sister Linda and family. Joan inspired so many and will be remembered for her kindness and caring heart.
I was so blessed to meet Joan. Her love of Jesus, family, life, her precious puppies and the cool less humid Colorado mountains made her an absolute delight to be around. She will be missed dearly and I will always be thankful for her desire to connect with me through her daughter Amanda. My prayers go out to the Pruitt family and may the good memories of Joan bring comfort during this difficult time.
Joan was a wonderful person and great friend. She was the core of the “Adrian St group” in the 70’s. It was never the same when work took Sid & Joan to PAl The great memories remain. Our Deepest Sincere Condolences to Sid & all the adult kids and grandchildren.
