Lt Col John H. Dorger

Lt Col John H. Dorger, USAF (Ret.), age 88, a resident of Colorado Springs from 1972 – 2007 passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Sugar Land, Texas. He had retired after serving his country for more than 32 years in the United States Air Force. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

John was born on January 2, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Herb and Ruth Dorger. He was a graduate of Purcell High School in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati. He married Dorothy M. Mitchell on November 10, 1945 in Hampton, Virginia. He then served in the Air Force as a navigator and later as a headquarters staff officer retiring in 1975. His last assignment was with the NORAD Inspector General Office at Peterson AFB. John was a member of the Elks and the ORBs.

He is survived by his sons: Mitch (wife, Barbara) Dorger of Pasadena, California and Lee (wife, Barbara) Dorger of Richmond, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Aaron (wife, Lauren) Dorger of Missouri City, Texas; David Dorger of Sugar Land, Texas; Scot (wife, Sarah) Dorger of Mobile, Alabama; Shannon DiPari of San Marcos, California and Trinity (husband, Trevor) Puthoff of Carlsbad, California. John has five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 62 years, his brother Mark and his daughter, Pat Good.

John will be best remembered for his friendly, outgoing and gregarious personality and love of God, country, family and the Air Force.

A celebration of his life will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance, “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A reception will follow. Inurnment will be at the Mausoleum’s Columbarium of Roses.
