Judy Pomeroy Birge – October 26, 2025

Judy Pomeroy Birge, age 82, went home to be with her Savior on October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born the daughter of a commercial fisherman in Paradise, MI, Judy was the daughter of Earl Joseph and Hazel Violet Pomeroy. The youngest of six children, she loved helping with the family business and entertaining customers with her playful spirit, sense of humor, and kindness. She also spent many hours sharing the love of Jesus with her nieces and nephews.

She moved to St. Ignace, MI, where she graduated from LaSalle High School and spent many years of her life. She later moved to Georgetown, TX, to live near her daughters and grandchildren, whom she loved very much.

In her final years, Judy took great joy in writing her book, The Fisherman’s Daughter, detailing the history of her family and her life growing up on Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia (Steve) Brachel, Fay Solis, and Cheri (Mike) Higginbotham; daughter-in-law Annie Leach; and sister Opal Lee of St. Ignace, MI. Judy has 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Pemberton Birge; parents, Earl Joseph and Hazel Violet Pomeroy; sisters Yvonne Belonga, Lois Lambert, and Gladys Tamlyn; brother Ernest Pomeroy; son-in-law Jim Solis; and son Alan Richard Leach.

Judy loved Jesus Christ with all her heart and felt a calling from the Lord to witness to and pray for those around her, which she willingly did with each and every chance that presented itself to her.

A memorial will be held in St. Ignace, MI, in June 2026 to celebrate her life. She will be laid to rest at Edgewood Cemetery in Cedarville, MI, next to her beloved Jerry.
