Julia M. Marturano, age 94, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1958 and formerly of Long Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at her home at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, great-grandmother and homemaker.

Julia Margaret Enrico was born on November 1, 1917 in Chisholm, Minnesota to the late Andrew and Theresa (Minardi) Enrico. She attended schools in Chisholm and later married Lucian Joseph “Marty” Marturano on June 12, 1937 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, Minnesota.

She and Marty lived in Long Prairie where they were active at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1958, they became members at Corpus Christi Parish where she was active in the Corpus Christi Guild, the Rosary Makers and the Legion of Mary. She also was a volunteer and supporter of the National Kidney Foundation.

Julia enjoyed Italian cooking, baking, gardening and needlework. She had many hobbies and became a wonderful painter who took and gave painting lessons at the Second Horizon Senior Citizens Center. She also made beautiful porcelain dolls and will be remembered for her green beans and raviolis. This woman of faith had a generous spirit and dearly loved her family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son: Lucian “Butch” (and Vickie) Marturano; her daughters: Judith (and Michael) Manley; Patricia (and Larry) Wheeler and Candace Marturano; all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by her sister: Norma Salvini of Chisholm, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, “Marty” in 1978; an infant daughter: Mary Theresa in 1953; and ten brothers and sisters.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon – 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 29th, at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Holy Rosary will be said at 2:00 pm in the Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 11:00 am on Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Avenue. A luncheon reception will follow the mass in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. Committal Services are scheduled for 1:30 pm on Monday at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum.
