Kevin Joe Kirby, born September 28, 1960, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, just one day before his 65th birthday.
Kevin shared nearly four decades of life and love with his wife, Vicky Lynn Kirby, who was truly the center of his world. Together, they built a blended family that included his biological sons, Bob Brandon Kirby and Chad Michael Kirby, and his stepsons, James Harold Risenhoover, Robert Dale Risenhoover, and Eric Risenhoover. Though life’s journey brought distance at times, Kevin’s love for all his children remained constant. He especially cherished being “Papa” to his grandchildren: Kiana Michele Risenhoover, Elijah Eric Risenhoover, Araiah Marie Risenhoover, and Kaden Robert Risenhoover. His close bond with his brother-in-law Robert Allen Cooper was one he valued deeply.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents: Bob Kirby, Tom Flynn (stepfather), and Edith Thelma Knutson; and his brother, Terry Lee Kirby. He is survived by his sister, Margie Ann Champlin, who continues to carry forward the family’s legacy.
Kevin dedicated over 30 years to Albertsons, where he served as an Assistant Store Director, earning the respect and friendship of countless coworkers and customers. Later, he spent 7 years with the Department of Corrections as a Lieutenant Correctional Officer, where his leadership, fairness, and steady presence left a lasting impact.
Outside of work, Kevin’s joy was found in life’s adventures. A loyal Denver Broncos fan, he loved cheering on his team through the highs and lows. He was happiest outdoors—whether fishing, camping under the stars, or skiing snowy slopes. He also had a lifelong love and talent for woodworking, a passion for the open road on his motorcycle, and was a devoted dog dad.
Kevin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. His laughter, loyalty, and unwavering spirit will be sorely missed, but his love endures in the lives of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the incredible man Kevin was.
