Linda Diane Kenney

Linda Diane Kenney, 66, of Colorado Springs, passed away on July 31, 2013. Linda was born on February 7, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Vernon Bartusch of Chicago, Illinois and Anita Lingwall of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

At a young age, Linda moved and was raised in the suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois and graduated from Palatine High School in 1965.

On June 15, 1974, Linda married First SGT Gerald “Jerry” Kenney in Carson City, Nevada. Jerry’s Army career took them on many ventures to Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Leonard, Missouri; Bamberg, Germany; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and back to Colorado Springs for retirement in 1994.

Linda enjoyed scrapbooking, craft fairs, collecting Hummels, cookbooks and Beanie Babies. She also loved watching her cooking shows, going out to eat and shopping for things she didn’t need. Linda’s favorite places to vacation were Breckenridge, Colorado; Scottsdale, Arizona; San Diego and Keyes, California. But she was always up for going to Lake Tahoe, Vegas and Reno for Hot August Nights.

Linda loved life, her family, and most of all her five grandchildren: Zachary Kenney, Tyler and Caitlyn Ericksen, and Madison and Lillian. She was the best grandma ever! She was a cancer survivor and battled many illnesses until heart failure took her life. Above all, Linda was a devout Lutheran and loved her God.

Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry; daughters: Jamie Kenney, Gina Rossi (Beau Schneider), and Kimberly (Doug) Ericksen; sister, Nancy Lingwall; brothers: Mert (Marci) Barker, Willie, Russell and Clete Barker; brother-in-law, Michael (Sonja) Rossi; sister-in-law, Rhonda Barker; uncle, Al (Irene) Bartusch; cousins: Mark (Cathie) Bartusch, Tim (Holly) Bartusch; great cousins: Alex, Kyle and Madeline Bartusch; nephews: Chris (Tracy), Kevin, Jeff (Meagan) Greener; great nephews: Evan, Ozzy and Alex Greener; great nieces: Kerstin, Dailynn and Alison Greener. Linda loved her dogs, Roxy and Maya (the Lion and the Lamb); as well as her grand dogs, Lucy, Jake and Cali.

She is preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Helen “Gaw” Bartusch of Lake Forest, Illinois; her sister and best friend, Carolynne Greener of Keyes, California; Uncle Dale “Butch” Bartusch; and her late fur babies: Gigi, Sassy, Brandy, Heidi “Puddin’ ” and Sunny.

The Kenney family would like to give thanks to all of Linda’s physicians and nurses at Memorial Hospital, Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center and Liberty Dialysis.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. A luncheon reception will follow services at Holy Cross.
