Margareta K. Conley, 96, passed away on June 21, 2025, after a short illness. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1957.
Margareta was born on March 17, 1929, to Karl Königsmayr and Paula (Hackl) Königsmayr in St. Marien, Austria. On October 4, 1947, she married Ray Joe Conley in Linz, Austria.
Margareta, affectionately known as Gretl to some, loved knitting, gardening, and reading, and had a deep passion for music. She began playing the piano by ear as a young child and later studied at a music conservatory in Linz, Austria. Margareta often said, “If you can sing it, I can play it”. She could hear a song once and play it beautifully on the piano and accordion. She grew up surrounded by music, with a family of musicians and a father who led the town’s marching band. She was a long-time member of the Austrian American Enzian Club and the Korean War Veteran Association.
She is survived by her children Evelyn Margareta Conley, Herbert Ray Conley, and Patrick Norman Conley; her grandchildren: Erin Lorraine Lenocker, Lauren Marie Lea, Lauren Margaret Conley, Audrey Conley Kapetanovic; and her great-grandchildren: Donivon DeLosSantos, Annaelle Kapetanovic, and Arthur Kapetanovic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Joe Conley; her daughter, Katherine Lorraine Cross; her grandson, William Conley; and her brother, Friedrich Königsmayr.
Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado where she will join her beloved husband, Ray. The family will celebrate Margareta’s life in a private gathering.
