February 12, 1947 – November 9, 2025
Marlene Ann Guevara passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, after living with Alzheimer’s disease since 2016. Throughout her illness, she was cared for with love and devotion by her husband of 34 years, George Guevara; her son, Kevin Timothy Haase; and her daughter, Leanne Haase Goebel.
Born on February 12, 1947, in Boulder, Colorado, Marlene was the third child of Shirley Eva Hartnagle and H.D. McCormick. She grew up in Marshall, Colorado, and later moved to San Antonio, Texas, to attend high school at International Bible College. There she met Timothy Charles Haase, whom she married in Colorado. The couple began their life together in San Antonio, where their daughter, Leanne Ruth Haase, was born. Six years later, while living in Morrison, Colorado, they welcomed their son, Kevin Timothy Haase. Kevin preceded his mother in death on June 30, 2025.
Marlene was a devoted and loving mother. She worked as a bookkeeper in Timothy’s business until their divorce in the 1980s, after which she returned to San Antonio. Determined to create a new path, she earned her GED and continued her career as a bookkeeper for a law firm before finding her dream job as a travel agent.
In 1989, Marlene met George Guevara, and the two were married on April 18, 1992, blending their families with love and care. In 1999, George’s career brought them back to Colorado, allowing Marlene to be close to her family and care for her mother in her final years. Following George’s retirement in 2004, they spent their time traveling the world, making friends, and visiting places she had long dreamed of seeing. Travel was Marlene’s greatest joy, and even after her diagnosis, she and George were able to take one last memorable trip—to Antarctica, to see the polar bears she had always wanted to visit.
When she wasn’t traveling, Marlene poured her heart into researching and documenting her family’s ancestry. She traced her lineage back to the original pilgrims who arrived in America and even farther, to ancestral castles in Scotland—some of which she had the chance to see in person.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband, George Guevara; her daughter, Leanne Haase Goebel, and son-in-law, Richard W. Goebel; grandsons, Richard Timothy Goebel and Kennan Richard Goebel; stepdaughter, Jeanette Dominguez, and husband, Jeff Dominguez, and their children: Aaron, Michael, and Raquel Gamez; and great-granddaughter, Athena; stepdaughter, Lori Rocha, and husband Juan Rocha, and their daughter, Lilly Rocha; stepson George Guevara Jr., and his children Miguel, Anna, and Maddie Guevara; nieces, Amy Yeazel and Ravelle Snyder, and their families; and nephews: Mark, Brett, and Michael McCormick and their families.
Marlene will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her devotion to family, and her love of discovery—whether through travel, genealogy, or the many friendships she cherished along the way.
