Martha Ann Bazan, age 89, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1974 and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa and Guffey, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Martha Ann Hancock was born on October 14, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Albert Clifton and Edith May (Grosjean) Hancock. She attended school and graduated from high school and college in Kansas City. She was married on May 2, 1944 to Raymond Andrew Bazan in Kansas City. Raymond passed away in 1991.
Martha and Ray raised nine wonderful children. She was a member of the Poetry West Club in Guffey, Colorado; loved telling stories at family events, reading, writing, traveling, and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children: Daniel (Patsy) Bazan of Benson, North Carolina; Joseph Bazan of Colorado Springs; Jeanne St. Christian of Waterloo, Iowa; Gregory (Maureen) Bazan of Waterloo; Ramona Moulton of Colorado Springs; Eileen (Bob) Nolan of Colorado Springs; John Bazan of Guffey, Colorado; and James (Trina) Bazan of Lakewood, Colorado.
She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter: Annette DeGeorge; two sisters: Miram Decker and Elizabeth Leffler; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A visitation is planned for 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and burial will be in the family cemetery in Guffey, Colorado.
Memorials in Martha’s name may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice.
Martha will be best remembered for her intelligence, keen wit, and gift of conversation. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
