Martha E. McGregor, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 22, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A devoted mother, grandmother, nurse, teacher, and cherished friend, Martha leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Born in Fries, Virginia, in 1937, Martha was raised in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and community. She carried those values into her life’s work-first as a registered nurse, and later as a dedicated schoolteacher. In both professions, she touched countless lives with her care, insight, and quiet strength.
Faith was a huge part of Martha’s life-she was a strong believer, and her faith provided her with strength, peace, and purpose throughout her life. She cherished her relationship with God and found comfort in participating in online church services, a reflection of her devotion.
Martha eventually made her home in Colorado and embraced the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. She had a deep love for reading, finding solace and joy in the written word throughout her life. But above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Whether gathered around the dinner table, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon together, family was the center of her world.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Ethel Carrico; her siblings, Tom Carrico, Dick Carrico, Patsy Bedwell, and Jane Moore; and her beloved grandson, Justin Peck.
She is survived by her loving children: Dave McGregor (Kathy), Cheri Whobrey, Charlotte Baker (Craig), and Steve McGregor (Shelly); her siblings: Alice Christensen, Joe Carrico, and Rosie Aker; her grandchildren: Zane Whobrey (Megan), Kendra Baker, Kyle Baker, Dalton McGregor, and Riley Jones (Logan); and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to reading, Martha enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, keeping up with friends and former students via social media, daily phone calls with her siblings, and her strong faith, which guided her every step.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martha’s memory to Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding Center / Justin’s Riding Partners, 3254 Paseo Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80909-a cause close to her family’s heart.
Martha’s grace, strength, and enduring love will live on in the lives of all she touched.
