Master Sergeant Joseph E. Arsenault, United States Army (Ret.), age 91, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1963, passed away quietly on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at a local hospital. He had retired after serving his country for 24 years in the Army Security Agency and after 26 years with the City of Colorado Springs’ Gas Division as a computer controller. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

Joseph Ernest Arsenault was born on October 27, 1920 in Esmond, Rhode Island to the late Joseph Alfred and Beatrice (Plourde) Arsenault. He married Irmgard Kind in Kassel, Germany on October 31, 1957. He was a long time member of the Enzian Club (since 1969) and had been a member of the St. Patrick’s and Holy Apostles Parishes in Colorado Springs. He enjoyed fishing, reading, poker, and especially enjoyed dancing.

He is survived by his loving wife: Irmgard “Jean” Arsenault of Colorado Springs; his daughter: Christa (husband, Larry) Joiner of Honolulu, Hawaii; two granddaughters: Kathy Taylor of Colorado Springs; and Tammy Crumb of Englewood, Colorado; a brother: Eugene Arsenault of St. George, Utah; two nephews: Jim Arsenault and Dan Arsenault of Utah; his sister-in-law: Christa Holland; his nephew: Peter (wife, Andrea) Holland; his niece: Silke (husband, Mario) Foerster, all of Germany; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Nicholas Crumb; two brothers: Theodore and Lionel Arsenault; his mother-in-law: Katharina Kind; and brother-in-law: Herbert Holland.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard. Cremation is planned and burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a future date.
